WOMEN in Somerset are leading the way in the jobs market with dynamism and innovation, it was claimed today - International Women's Day.
Adam Chambers, chief executive of the South-West’s Business Link service, says the drive and success of women in our area sets a ‘tremendous example for others and is playing an increasingly significant role in helping to maintain economic diversity and vitality’.
He added: “Not only are more and more women in positions of seniority in the boardrooms of our larger employers, it is particularly significant that we also have the highest level of female entrepreneurship in the country, more than 100,000 self-employed women and the proportion of businesses in the region that are wholly women-led is much higher than the national average.
“Such statistics show the very significant role of women in our local business communities – but what they don’t show is the remarkable and truly inspirational stories that lie behind so many examples of success.
“We don’t have to look far anywhere in the county to see examples of so many different types of successful new and established enterprises that are led by women.”
International Women’s Day is a global initiative to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
